SFC Joseph Butler

SFC Butler joined the Eagle Battalion in Summer 2021 and currently serves as a Military Science Instructor for Georgia Southern – Armstrong Campus and Savannah State University.

Born on December 13, 1985 in Keene, NH, SFC Joseph G. Butler was raised in Winchester, NH where he graduated High School in 2005. SFC Butler enlisted into the Active Duty Army in April of 2006 and completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and then completed Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in Fort Bliss, TX, being awarded the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 14E Patriot Fire Control Enhanced Operator/ Maintainer.

Upon his completion of AIT, SFC Butler was assigned to HHB 4-5 ADA BN at Ft. Hood, TX. During his tenure, he was assigned as a Command group driver (Feb 2007-Aug 2008). He then was assigned to Delta Battery 4-5 ADA BN where he served as an Engagement Controller. While assigned to Delta Battery, he conducted one rotation to South Korea (Oct 2008-Oct 2009) and one deployment to Ali Aslam, Kuwait (Nov 2011-Nov 2012). Then, SFC Butler changed duty stations to Suwon AB, South Korea (Mar 2014-Apr 2015) where he was assigned to HHB 6-52 ADA BN as the System Maintenance NCOIC. SFC Butler then PCS’d to Ft. Bliss, TX where he was assigned to B 3-43 ADA BN (Feb 2015-Dec 2017) as a Fire Control Platoon Sergeant. During his tenure, his Platoon conducted six Patriot Live Fires as well as the testing and fielding of the Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) with the first successful engagement of the MSE. He then transitioned to C 2-1 ADA BN in South Korea (Dec 2017-Dec 2018) where he was the Battery Master Gunner. Upon completion of his tour, he then PCS’d to Ft. Hood, TX in Jan 2019-Feb 2020 and served as the Fire Control Platoon Sergeant, where he deployed with A 4-5 ADA BN to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).  While in KSA from Feb 2020 – Aug 2020, he was assigned to the Standardization Team as the Master Gunner. Then from Aug 2020-May 2021, he was assigned to B 4-5 ADA BN as the Fire Control Platoon Sergeant.

SFC Butler’s military education includes the Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Advanced Individual Training (14E Patriot Enhanced Operator/Maintainer Course), Patriot Master Gunner Course, Unit Movement Officer, Master Driver Trainer, Fuel Handlers Course, Technical Transportation of Hazardous Material, Combat Life Savors Course, Suicide Intervention, Blue Force Tracker, Combatives Level one and Unit Armorers Course.

SFC Butler’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (7 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (2 OLC), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (2 OLC), Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (5th Award), Meritorious Unit Citation, Master Gunner Identification Badge, and Driver’s Badge (W).

SFC Butler and his wife, Alyssa, have two children, Addison and Channing.
