Gas Laws

Activity Summary
Students will explore the behavior of gasses in this activity through three different, simple experiments. First students will test the relationship between volume and pressure/temperature by attempting to remove a bag taped inside of a small jar, or trying to push a bag into a small jar. Students will then explore the relationship between temperature and volume of gasses by crushing a soda can using a hot plate and an ice bath. Finally students will examine Charles’ Law by placing a balloon over a flask with water and measuring how much the balloon expands as the water in the flask is heated.
