Dr. Kersey’s works in the areas of Approximation Theory and Computational Science with expertise in Splines. His current research involves the Approximation and Optimization of functions by B-Spline Quasi-Interpolants on Tensor Product and Sparse Grids. He is also interested in the Mathematics of Curves and Surfaces, and in Machine Learning. In his Numerical Analysis class, students learn about Matrix Factorizations (SVD, QR) and other tools which apply to topics such as Image Compression, Principal Component Analysis, Classification, Least Squares and Spline fitting. Dr. Kersey also maintains a LaTeX Thesis Template used by our Graduate Students.
