Teaching Philosophy:

I use a research-based approach to aid students at all levels in developing the skills and knowledge needed to observe the natural world and interpret relevant data to understand and solve geological and environmental problems. Additionally, I aim to create a welcoming and respectful environment in and out of the classroom to accommodate students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, and learning styles.  Teaching should go beyond simply ensuring students have memorized facts. My goal is for students to gain the perspective, skills, and scientific literacy to either successfully move forward as earth scientists or to become informed, environmentally conscious citizens.
