The Biology department at Georgia Southern is the largest center for biology research and education in southern Georgia. You’ll learn relevant skills both in the classroom and via hands-on research with faculty mentors who consistently receive awards for their teaching, research and service.
Our degree programs in chemistry and biochemistry are certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and provide a strong foundation in chemistry including laboratory, problem solving and communication skills required of successful scientific professionals. The biochemistry program is also certified by the Association of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB).

Our programs offer a broad science education with special depth in geology and geography. Geology focuses on earth materials, environmental and structural geology and coastal processes. Geography focuses on geographic information systems, climatology and human and cultural geography.

The program of study is interdisciplinary and focuses on the interaction between people and the environment. Graduates are equipped with the writing, math, presentation, technical, and soft skills that are critical for success in today’s economy, as well as prepared for jobs in industry, government, non-profit, and/or educational sectors. Access to natural laboratories, such as sandy beaches, salt marshes, rivers, and woodlands, expand the opportunities available to students.
The degree programs in mathematical sciences not only enable students to pursue a profession in mathematics itself but also enhance the student’s competence in the fields of engineering, the physical sciences, the life sciences and the social sciences. Graduates from our mathematics program will enter an exciting job market. which is expected to grow by more than 20 percent by 2024.

The Department of Military Science “Eagle Battalion” has a national reputation for producing mentally and physically tough officers, fully prepared for the challenge of leading our nation’s soldiers. A Senior Division Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Instructor Group, the curriculum qualifies graduates for a commission as an officer in the U. S. Army, U. S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. Enrollment is open to all students.

The minor in Naval Science is a Savannah State University cross Campus Program. Students enrolled at Savannah State University or Georgia Southern University – Armstrong Campus are eligible to participate in NROTCU SSU. The degree programs in physics include lecture and laboratory classes designed to establish a fundamental understanding of the major areas of physics. Georgia Southern’s Master of Science in Applied Physical Science is a terminal professional degree that prepares graduates with real-world experience applying knowledge of physical science to projects of interest to the business, government, and nonprofit sectors.
The Pre-Health Professional Programs of Study at Georgia Southern University are a series of courses designed in collaboration with the professional schools in our region to prepare students for entrance into the specified health program.

Georgia Southern’s College of Science and Mathematics and South University School of Pharmacy have a joint partnership to help you earn your PharmD and your BA in Biology or Chemistry in less time and costing less money!
Medical Professions advising will assist you with completing the program and applying. South University will hold information sessions and assist with mentoring qualified students.

Accelerated Pharmacy with University of Georgia
Georgia Southern’s College of Science and Mathematics and University of Georgia’s College of Pharmacy have a joint partnership to help you earn your PharmD and your BA in Biology or Chemistry in less time and costing less money!
Medical Professions advising will assist you with completing the program and applying. The University of Georgia will hold information sessions and assist with mentoring qualified students.

Accelerated MD Program with Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Georgia Southern’s College of Science and Mathematics and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine have a joint partnership to help you earn your Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree and your BA in Biology or Chemistry in less time and costing less money!
