Despite the COVID pandemic striking in the middle of his Sabbatical in France during the Spring of 2020, Dr. Quirino returned to GS with some great news. He was awarded a NSF-IRES grant (along with Dr. Aiken as co-PI) to implement a research exchange program from 2021 to 2023 with the University of Lorraine where he did his Sabbatical. Additionally, he received the 2020 COSM research award in research at the virtual commencement ceremony ahead of the Fall 2020 semester.

Dr. Quirino’s stay in France was co-sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson Fund grant from the French Embassy in the US.
