Research
Dr Wang has conducted research on the optical properties of transition metal and/or rare earth element doped phosphors with emissions from ultraviolet to infrared. Our labs can synthesize different types of phosphors and study them using optical spectroscopy and electron spin resonance. Here are some example phosphors we currently researching:
Phosphors for LED: These phosphors will convert the emissions from blue or near UV LEDs into white light.
Persistent phosphors: or glow-in-the-dark phosphors. These phosphors will store the radiation energy and release the energy in the form of light when the radiation ceases. Their applications include biomedical imaging, emergency display, anti-counterfeiting, and entertainment.
Up-conversion phosphors: These phosphor will convert low-energy photons to high-energy photons. For example,, converting infrared into visible or visible into ultraviolet.
