Research

During my Ph.D. program and as a post doctorial assistant at the University of Georgia, I specialized in experimental condensed matter physics. My research ventures have included: the study of the properties of powder phosphors for flat panel displays, the development of new infrared detection schemes utilizing visible emission from crystals, and the investigation of the shifts in energy levels of crystals due to the application of hydrostatic pressure. Since joining the faculty at Georgia Southern University, I have developed a strong interest in Physics Education Research. Some of my recent ventures include: evaluating the implementation of electronic homework, developing and assessing inquiry based lessons for physics instruction, and investigating Georgia Southern Physics Department’s conversion from traditional lecture and laboratory courses to studio physics courses. Currently, I am investigating students’ motivation in various programs across the university as well as new faculties’ experiences in developing student centered instruction.
