Regassa recognized by American Society for Microbiology

Honors/Award: Laura Regassa Ph.D., a professor of Biology at Georgia Southern University, was recently presented with the Margaret Green Award by the American Society for Microbiology Southeastern Branch. Regassa, who was presented the award during the group’s annual conference in Montgomery, Ala., received the award for her outstanding service in the teaching of microbiology. Regassa is the third Georgia Southern professor to be recognized with the award. Sara Bennett Ph.D. received the award in 1998 and Wayne Krissinger Ph.D. received the award in 2000.

Background: Regassa has been a faculty member at Georgia Southern University since 1999. She completed her undergraduate education at Marquette University and the Universidad de Madrid. She earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Regassa currently serves as director of the Molecular Biology Initiative Program and runs a research program focused on global biodiversity of spiroplasma bacteria and biology education.
