DNA Isolation – Tick Extraction

Activity Summary
Students will extract DNA from Ixodes scapularis ticks. Students will go through the 2-day process of extracting DNA from ticks. They will use a variety of buffers and isopropanol to complete extracting and cleaning the DNA. It is important to use the 2-day protocol in order to preserve tick cuticles.
