Research Interests
My research interests focus on carbon and nitrogen cycling in the ocean and the role that phytoplankton play in those cycles. I’m specifically interested in the biological carbon pump and how differences in phytoplankton community structure affect the transfer of carbon to depth. Closer to shore, my work focuses on how the type and abundance of marine autotrophs (macroalgae and phytoplankton) change in response to human influence. I am also involved in education research focusing on assessment of student learning and undergraduate research learner outcomes.
