The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of one of Georgia Southern University’s eight Colleges. Deans are regarded as the intellectual leader within the College and across the University and regional communities. Among other duties, the Dean sets the vision for the College within the University’s strategic plan, establishes new opportunities for the College, and directs its growth and development through shared academic governance. The Dean participates in campus-wide planning and is responsible for the College’s teaching quality, budget, development and allocation of resources, the administration of the academic and research programs, and alumni relations. The Dean also communicates official business of the College with University authorities, faculty, students, staff, and external constituencies and provides leadership in fundraising to augment state appropriations.

In addition, this position is responsible for developing and/or supporting college-wide collaborative initiatives and overseeing the development, benchmarking and assessment of the COSM strategic plan. This position is also responsible for COSM administration on the Armstrong and Liberty campuses(in absence of the Dean) and assisting the Chairs of the Department of Physics and Department of Geology and Geography on these two campuses with communication and day-to-day operation. As Director of the FORAM Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center (SARC), Dr. Feske also works with local K-12 school systems and businesses/non-profits to develop partnerships supporting research and education in aquaponic farming as well as manage SARC personnel and operations. The Associate Dean of of Outreach, Planning, and Community Programs reports directly to the Dean.

The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs is primarily responsible for providing leadership in the coordination and administration of undergraduate enrollment management and student services of the College; monitoring the student academic policies and procedures of the College; and providing leadership in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment. The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs reports directly to the Dean.

The Associate Dean of of Research, Faculty and Graduate Affairs is primarily responsible for advancing a culture of academic excellence where distinction in teaching, scholarship and other creative works and service is expected and rewarded; and for providing leadership for research programs, scholarly efforts, and strategic multidisciplinary research initiatives that further the College’s strategic plan. The Associate Dean of of Research, Faculty and Graduate Affairs reports directly to the Dean.

The Director of Electronics and Research Technology is responsible for the electronics needs of both student and research lab equipment in COSM, as well as IT needs for specialized hardware and software needed for research or other purposes not supported by ITS.

The Executive Assistant provides administrative support to the Dean’s Office on the Armstrong and Liberty Campuses, the Geology, Geography, Physics and Astronomy Departments on the Armstrong Campus as well as other COSM Centers on the Armstrong Campus.
